Neutral.

Simple budgeting.

Why is the app so plain?

On purpose. Money is arithmetic, and arithmetic reads better without decoration. Neutral states your figure and stops there. Nothing in it congratulates you, and nothing in it tells you off, because a week is a measurement rather than a verdict.

How does the weekly budget work?

You tell Neutral what your paycheque is and how often it lands. Neutral turns that into a single weekly number, and that number is the whole budget. Every week starts fresh at midnight on Monday, in your own time zone.

Why is my budget lower than I expected?

Your monthly set-aside comes off the top. You give Neutral two numbers - what repeats every month, and what you put away every month - and it removes a twelfth of their yearly total from every week. That is deliberate. A budget that ignores the rent is not describing your week accurately.

Why is it taken off every week instead of on the 1st?

So that every week means the same thing. If the whole month's bills came out at once, the first week of a month would look impossible and the last would look generous, and neither figure would tell you anything. Taking a steady amount off each week makes any two weeks comparable.

What happens to money I do not spend?

Nothing. At the end of the week Neutral records what was left over and the budget resets. It is not carried forward, and it is not swept anywhere. It stays a number you got to see.

What if I go over budget?

Neutral says so plainly, and then the week resets anyway. A shortfall is never carried into next week and never becomes a debt inside the app. Going over is a fact to work with rather than a failure to sit with.

Do I have to categorise every purchase?

No. A purchase needs an amount and nothing else. Categories are optional tags, there for when you want to look back at where a week went. Each one is a name and an emoji you pick from the full set on your phone, and they live under Categories in Settings.

Can I log something I bought yesterday?

Yes. Tap the day on the strip across the top of the home screen, then add the purchase as usual. It lands on that day's sheet and counts towards the same week.

What can my friends see?

Only your current week: your weekly budget, what you have spent, and how that spending was split across your categories. They can never see individual purchases, your paycheque, or your monthly set-aside. Both people have to accept before anything is shared. Full detail is in the privacy policy.

Does Neutral connect to my bank?

No. There is no bank connection and no access to any financial account. Every number in Neutral is one you typed in yourself.

How do I delete my account?

Settings, then Delete account. Everything attached to it goes with it, permanently and immediately. There is no undo and no backup copy kept afterwards.
